- President of the Environmental, Social, & Corporate Governance Program at PSIS

In these positions, Lanis advocates for the energy industry and acts as a voice for Remote Care and Safety. In this conversation, Lanis speaks on his personal history, how Pharma-Safe was created, and how he lives a life of servant leadership. He addresses the core philosophies that have made PSIS a leader in remote care and safety.
"You don't become a paramedic to become rich, you become a paramedic to help people. That's why we surround ourselves with people who maintain that same mindset."
Professional Journey: Ambition to Fruition
Born in Breaux Bridge, LA, Lanis Belaire’s story is one of growth and ambition. Starting as an EMT-I patient care provider, he advanced his education to become a Paramedic. Afterward, he graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with an emergency medical health science degree. Lanis quickly rose through the ranks at Acadian Ambulance, eventually overseeing the offshore division.
Throughout this time, he honed his business acumen and managerial skills. His position allowed him to develop relationships with employees and clients alike. He emphasizes the importance of trusting relationships, especially in the oil and gas industry.
Initially, Lanis was hesitant to enter the industry. His father worked in the oil and gas industry and sustained an injury that cost several of his fingers. The lack of safety protocol in the past was a major concern for the EMT.
However, working and overseeing the offshore division, he discovered that the position required both emergent care and clinical skills. He used his well-practiced code-response skills and learned how to care for those not critically injured. With this, he realized the specialized needs of the patients in remote working environments—the need for an evolution of the Paramedic.
Addressing Ever-Changing Needs
Along with Ken Dugas, the two recognized the gap in these specialized services and began the journey to create Pharma-Safe Industrial Services. The company launched as a medical supply company, but later evolved in response to market needs to provide personnel. Following their vision, they created the clinical extension program to train employees to address a fuller breadth of client needs.
Throughout the years, Lanis and the PSIS team have worked diligently to provide a full spectrum of solutions for remote industrial safety and healthcare needs. After years of refinement and responding to evolving needs, PSIS now provides its Health Management System, Safety Environmental Management System, and Logistics Management System.
With input from industry experts and professionals, Lanis has aided the comprehensive set of services that aim to meet a wide range of needs. Pharma-Safe Industrial Service’s evolution reflects the innovative values of its executive team.
Current Role and Responsibilities
As co-owner and co-founder of PSIS, Lanis works as a visionary leader who guides the large-scale direction of the company, establishes company-level priorities, and builds relationships within the industry. Lanis functions as a “mascot,” as he explains, representing the company on an executive level. However, he also emphasizes the role that employees play in their performance, because he acknowledges that they are the faces of the company to clients.
In his commitment to supporting the industries PSIS works in, Lanis sits on the Board of Directors as an Energy Lobbyist Advocate through various trade associations.
Why Pharma-Safe Exists as it Does
Standards of Leadership
Throughout the years, Lanis owned various businesses which taught him the skills needed to own and manage a developing company. The two founders share the sentiment of learning from the “school of hard knocks” in growing the business. They also share the history of beginning as paramedics, providing a uniquely informed set of knowledge that sets Pharma-Safe apart from its competitors.
For the same reason, Lanis and Ken have systematically built a leadership team of experts who have also been in the energy field or emergency response. Each of the Executive Team members fit these criteria and provide a deep understanding of the positions of their employees.
Motivators and Exponential Impact
During his career journey, he saw how moving upwards in the management ranks multiplies the impact that one can have on people; he values that as an owner, his impact can increase exponentially. From being able to impact on an individual level with some of his most rewarding moments of being able to save lives, deliver babies, and hear the gratitude of people whose family was saved, to being able to create systems that foster that impact, he values helping others. His passion for patient care inspires the creation of processes that raise the bar.
“You don’t become a paramedic to become rich, you become a paramedic to help people. That’s why we surround ourselves with people who maintain that same mindset.”
Core Values and Guiding Philosophies
Lanis points to the PSIS core values—accountability, innovation, integrity, team culture, standard setting, and professionalism—as his guiding principles. Continuous improvement and trust are also central to his leadership philosophy.
Continuous Improvement
Continuous improvement is essential to succeed in the turbulent energy industry and ever-evolving medical field. Lanis emphasizes the importance of proactive safety oversight and dynamic systems. Having subject matter experts and professionals who support the same core values and passion for helping others is also essential to success.
“From everyone’s view, everyone wants to continue to see improvement. And if you don’t see that, then I think it’s a motivation killer, and no one wants to work in an environment where people are not trying to constantly make things better.”
Improvement must be sought on not just the corporate level, but also on a personal level. He advises young professionals to consistently provide and justify their value, pursue continuous education, and align with companies that share their core values.
Cultivating Trust
Lanis stresses the importance of trust between employees and clients. Delivering on promises and doing the right thing even when unobserved are crucial. “If people don’t trust you, you don’t have anything,” he asserts.
Commitment to Excellence
Lanis’s commitment to excellence is reflected in his roles as a Basic Life Support instructor, Advanced Life Support instructor, American Heart Association instructor, and Paramedic instructor.
His most impactful advocacy lies in his position as an energy lobbyist, where he supports the industry that PSIS is most strongly involved in. Pharma-Safe is unique in this aspect and Lanis emphasizes the importance of being an advocate for the industry, present and future, as it addresses oil and gas and the transition to renewable energy sources.
Lanis is also on the board of directors for numerous companies such as:
- National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA)
- PSIS
- Stratford Pinnacle
- Orbistream Holdings
- Luna Capital
- Bridgemont
- Advanced Diagnostic Monitoring
Additionally, he is involved with the ONG-ISAC as a Cross-Sector Coordinator and is a part of an ongoing study by the Energy & Industrial Advisory Partners to track the economic impacts of the U.S. offshore oil & gas industry.
Personal Life, Servant Leadership, and the Future
In his personal life, Lanis Belaire is a husband and father of four children. He takes pride in his three Eagle Scout sons and accomplished daughter. During his sons’ involvement in Boy Scouts of America, he volunteered to be a part of the leadership and attended campouts and hikes regularly as a testament to his servant leadership.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family and fishing. He picked up the hobby of fishing while working odd hours offshore and has grown to love the activity.
He is grateful to his family who understood the commitment required to maintain PSIS, especially in the beginning, and credits the success of the family unit to his wife.
Pharma-Safe’s Commitment to Innovation
Lanis’ vision for the future of Pharma-Safe Industrial Services is to create a self-sustaining system guided by core values, expert opinions, and careful direction. In implementing the EOS system, the company has aligned its leadership to shared goals and values, supporting increasingly efficient operations. Lanis takes pride in this accomplishment, viewing it as a successful aspect of his succession plans.
Lanis Belaire’s journey from an EMT-I to the visionary leader of Pharma-Safe Industrial Services highlights his dedication to excellence, continuous improvement, and servant leadership. His expertise in remote medical and safety personnel and equipment, combined with a commitment to core values, has driven the company’s success in remote working environments.
By fostering trust and strategic direction, Lanis ensures Pharma-Safe Industrial Services remains a leader in the industry. As Pharma-Safe continues to grow and adapt, Lanis stays committed to its success and impact, setting a high standard for remote care and emergency medical services.
